Play Day grants make a difference!

You may recall, sometime last fall, we gave away two $10,000 grants and five $1,000 grants from NFL PLAY 60 to organizations who hosted amazing Play Days. People are using the grants to improve their local play spaces, and they couldn't be happier.

We were very touched to receive the following letter this week from a very happy grant recipient in Ontonagon, Mich.

(And as a side note, how awesome is this picture? I want to play on that tire monster in the worst way!)

Dear KaBOOM! and NFL PLAY 60,

Ontonagon Area Elementary School would like to take this time to thank you both for the $10,000.00 playground amenities grant. You have no idea how much we need this money, it is truly a godsend. You can be assured that the money will be put to good use!

The entire grant process brought great things to our community. The Play Day that we held in September was a huge success. The school benefitted from the service portion, the students loved being at the school with the parents, and overall it was a wonderful day. The actually writing part of the grant allowed our school and community to share its hardships and concerns, and being chosen as a finalist made us feel heard. The voting process was truly amazing. It brought both hope and excitement to this distressed area, and created closeness between community members.

This entire experience was completely positive. We have been shown what a small community can do when they come together and believe. This lesson will be used over and over again as Ontonagon moves forward after many recent setbacks.

Thank you again for all you have done for our community.
