New York now requires playground safety mat warnings

Following reports that children have been burned by safety mats used in city playgrounds, the New York City Council voted Wednesday to require warning signs be posted in time for this summer.

Interestingly, the warning signs make no mention of the safety mats or any other playground equipment. They say: "Warning: Some surfaces may become hot. Please take precautions with exposed skin."

Similar legislation was introduced in Brooklyn in December.
