KABOOM!, with our partners the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation and the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) will address the urgent need of increasing kids physical activity.

Stephen & Ayesha Curry's Eat. Learn. Play. Launches New Movement While Visiting Lockwood STEAM Academy.

Overview

The 25 in 5 Initiative aims to address an urgent need in Oakland – kids are not getting the play they need to thrive. Locally, only 19% of boys and 9% of girls receive at least 60 minutes of daily physical activity. One of the barriers is inequitable access to quality playspaces. According to the State of Play report, neighborhoods of color in Oakland have access to 66% less park space per person than those in predominantly white neighborhoods. OUSD’s 61 elementary and middle school properties support children across all Oakland neighborhoods and provide the most promising option to diversify Oakland’s access to parks and spark joy and foster a sense of belonging for kids who are often denied opportunities to thrive.

Our Partners

  • Oakland Unified School District (OUSD)
  • Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation

Children across Oakland are playing on amazing revamped schoolyards thanks to the investments made by Stephen and Ayesha Curry and Eat. Learn. Play., KABOOM!, and all their remarkable partners. This partnership has been a godsend for OUSD, as far too many of our outdoor play spaces need renovation.
