Baltimore Stories

KABOOM! has a proud history of partnering with communities and city leaders in Baltimore, building or improving 60 playspaces over the last two decades. Here are just a few of the ways we've worked to end playspace inequity in Baltimore.

Responding to COVID-19

Bringing Play to Kids with At-Home Playground Design Kits

Each kit includes items such as sidewalk chalk, pipe cleaners, crayons, coloring pages, origami play activities, and play prompts. Our first deployment of these kits occurred in May 2020 to families with kids attending public schools in Baltimore.

Teen Engagement

Play More B’More: Putting kids first in Baltimore

Through multi-sector partnerships, we are increasing access to play in some of Baltimore’s most challenged neighborhoods and engaging key city stakeholders to help make play an easy choice for families in Baltimore. Our goal was to put kids' needs first.

Neighborhood Revitalization

Reinvigorating an East Baltimore community with a new playground

By partnering with over a dozen community-based organizations, schools, and city agencies, KABOOM! activated hundreds of volunteers, strengthened community cohesion, and built safe and engaging playspaces.
