Natural Storytelling: Playing to Promote Body and Mind Literacy
We will innovatively use a community-based asset, a Public Library, and utilize shaded green space to exercise minds while playing. We combine interactive play, fitness tracking technology, and book characters in underutilized green space at a library in a low income Hispanic neighborhood.
Outdoor Class, Play & Build Node: Each node is surrounded by an obstacle course of balancing beams, logs, stones, etc. Build zone allows kids to build a fortress, castle or any other item related to their storybook. Tubes that can be assembled to make a Hungry Caterpillar they can crawl through, and long wood sticks to make a teepee. The central sidewalk is flanked with raised garden beds, and allows kids to do chalk art on the sidewalk. There is also a climbing Charlotte's Web for kids.
