City of Kerman
To create interactive crosswalks that connect pedestrian traffic to the schools and neighborhood parks in our community. Whether they are running through hot lava, playing the piano or challenging each other to a game of hopscotch, these interactive crosswalks will encourage fun and spark the imaginations of children and adults alike.
This project will serve as a valuable asset to our community by providing an opportunity to increase playability while encouraging pedestrian safety. Members of the Kerman Youth Commission will work with staff to create the conceptual design of the interactive crosswalks making each one unique to the park and school that is connected by the crosswalk. Youth will also be hands on for the execution of the project assisting with the logistics involved in the crosswalk project.
Kerman, like most cities, is still recovering from the economic downturn and because of this minimal park development has occurred over the last couple of years. These creative crosswalks offer an opportunity to provide play in a non-conventional setting at a time when budgets for new parks are tight. Our goal is to begin incorporating creative crosswalks in a lower socioeconomic area of Kerman, an area that hasn't seen any park development since 1991.
If adequate funding is received it is our goal to expand the crosswalk project to include all ten parks, the 2 remaining elementary schools, the middle school and high school all of which are located within city limits.
