Bright games painted on a cement or asphalt surface are a welcome addition to any playground! Use the suggested patterns attached here, or think back to your own childhood to come up with possible games! Note: Your site will obviously have to have a bare cement or asphalt surface on which you can paint, and where children can play safely.
Sort all materials into piles by like items to ensure you have materials needed to complete project.
Wash the entire area with a pressure washer or hose with a high powered nozzle. Then sweep the area and let it dry completely.
Prime the entire area using a clear concrete or asphalt primer and rollers with extension.
Additional notes about working with Concrete Primer:
Begin by brainstorming which Asphalt Game(s) you would like to do. Draw your ideas on scrap paper before you start.
If you have not yet done so, prime the area with either asphalt or concrete primer.
Outline your game with measuring tape, chalk, pencils, and/or tape.
You may want to add a no-skid additive to prevent the painted area from being slippery when wet.
Fill in colors first, and then go back after it’s dry to add outlines and touch up any edges.
Place caution tape around the painted area so no one walks through your masterpiece!
KABOOM! is a national nonprofit that works to achieve playspace equity. Kids who don't have access to play miss out on childhood and are denied critical opportunities to build physical, social and emotional health.
We team up with communities to build incredible playspaces that help give every kid the opportunity to thrive.
Our goal is to end playspace inequity. For good.

Beauty will always enhance a playspace, because it draws people into a common area – and into an opportunity to socialize with fellow community members. The planters also provide a unique opportunity for children to tend to a plant and watch it grow!
Murals provide color and an imaginative setting to a playspace. They also can be a reflection of the community based on the theme of the mural. Murals can also give communities a sense of historical context for their neighborhood and many murals are considered by the local government to be works of art, which gives the immediate neighbors more leverage when working to make other improvements.
Adding a huge, colorful map brings color to the playspace and teaches geography to kids. Children will be amazed by this enormous map, and will be drawn to thinking about it and playing around it. Painting is also a fun volunteer project! A finished painting project always provides a sense of accomplishment and very little expertise is needed to contribute successfully to the project.
