Respecting the wishes of our volunteers, supporters, and other individuals who interact with us (“you”, “your”, “users”) is very important to KABOOM!; that’s why our Privacy Notice (“Notice”) is important. We want you to be comfortable sharing your Personal Information with us, and to know what we do with your information when it is entrusted to us. This Notice describes how we process Personal Information, defined as “information that is linked or reasonably linkable to an identified or identifiable natural person.”
Any information collected on the KABOOM! Website (“Website”) will be used for the purposes stated. This Notice applies to the services offered from the Website.
By accessing or using our Website, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our Website.

We collect and obtain information from:
- You. We collect Personal Information directly from you through forms you complete on our Website, transactions made on our Website, and any email and direct correspondence with us.

- Fulfill requests. We use Personal Information to fulfill your requests and for any other purpose for which the information was collected (including facilitating and coordinating volunteer placement with our community partners), or for which you provide your consent (if required).
- Respond to questions or comments from users. We use Personal Information to respond to your emails, questions, comments, requests for information or customer support.
- Process financial transactions. We also use your Personal Information to complete the transactions you request (including donations) and to maintain a record of these transactions.
- Thank individuals who made donations. We may use your Personal Information to publicly recognize and thank donors for their generosity newsletters (which you can opt out of at any time).
- To provide our Website and for internal business purposes. This includes, operating, providing, enhancing, and improving the Website, for example, by developing new features and functionality, and personalizing or customizing the Website, content and experiences for you.
- To send service-related updates and promotional communications. We may send you administrative messages and information. We may also notify individuals about upcoming events, updates to our website, and newsletters (which you can opt out of at any time).
- For advertising, marketing, and analytics purposes. This includes personalizing your online experience, display advertisements that are targeted to your interests, and analyzing and determining the effectiveness of our online ads and Website. We might also use your Personal Information to analyze donation giving patterns, make budget projections, and solicit future donations.
- For safety, security, compliance, and due diligence purposes. We use information to protect our company or others. We also may use information to protect our Website, as well as to detect and investigate activities that may be illegal or prohibited.

For example, we may use Personal Information to exercise contractual rights, to comply with financial reporting obligations (which includes keeping a record of each donor’s giving history for IRS purposes), court orders, warrants, or subpoenas, and/or to pursue or defend against legal threats and/or claims in accordance with applicable law.
We may also use Personal Information as otherwise disclosed or permitted by law, or as we may notify you from time to time. In addition, we may analyze your information in aggregate and/or de-identified form to operate, maintain, manage, and improve our Website.
How We Share Personal Information
However, we may share your Personal Information with:
- Service providers. We share Personal Information with companies and individuals that provide services on our behalf or help us operate our Website or our business (such as payment processing, hosting, analytics, email delivery, software).
- Community/Funding Partners. If you sign up to volunteer with us, we may share your contact information (name, email address, phone number) with our community and/or funding partners, including our municipal partners, for the purposes of facilitating and coordinating volunteer placement, for event promotion and logistics, and for the purpose of reporting volunteer impact data back to the community. We may also share information with select community/fundraising partners so that they can provide you with promotional materials and other materials that may be of interest to you. However, KABOOM! is not responsible for the privacy practices of these business partners, which may use this information for their own purposes.
- Marketing and Advertising Partners. We may share your Personal Information with advertising and marketing partners for analytics and advertising-related purposes, such as for retargeting purposes, measuring ad performance and understanding how consumers interact with our ads.
- Law enforcement, government authorities, and private parties. We may share the above categories of Personal Information as we believe in good faith to be necessary or appropriate to comply with law or for the compliance, fraud prevention, and safety purposes described above.
- Organizations in connection with a business transfer. We will share your Personal Information if we are acquired by or enter into a merger with another company, or otherwise reorganize our business.
Your Rights and Choices
Opt-Out of Promotional Emails. To stop receiving our promotional emails, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of each message. Even if you opt out of getting marketing messages, we will still send you transactional messages. These include responses to your questions. You may also request at any time that KABOOM! no longer send email communications (including fundraising communications) to you by emailing KABOOM! at [email protected].
Opt-Out of Public Acknowledgement. On occasion, KABOOM! recognizes and thanks donors publicly. If you would prefer not to be recognized, or that your gift remain anonymous, please let us know by contacting us at [email protected]. Your wishes will be respected.
California Shine the Light. California Civil Code Section 1798.83, also known as the “Shine the Light” law, permits California residents to annually request, free of charge, information about certain categories of Personal Information a business has disclosed to third parties for direct marketing purposes in the preceding calendar year.
