KABOOM!, as the national nonprofit dedicated to improving kids’ access to play, supports easy and affordable access to our National Parks and that is why we are asking the Department of the Interior to reconsider its policy on free park entry on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Juneteenth. At a time when many Americans are struggling to find kid friendly options because of rising costs, keeping our National Parks accessible and affordable ought to be a priority. These dates are federal holidays when schools and offices are typically closed so ensuring parents and caregivers have affordable options to get kids outdoors, physically active, and able to enjoy one of our nation’s greatest legacies is especially critical. Playgrounds serve as a pipeline to National Parks by introducing kids to outdoor recreation and that is why it’s critical that families can access everything from local playspaces to large wilderness areas. We hope that the Department changes course and restores these opportunities for everyday people to enjoy the benefits of our world class National Park system.
