The Moveable Fest
The Moveable Fest. We have seen the success in many cities that implement semi-permanent parklet installations and how they can positively affect public space, spur the re-imagination of public space, and encourage a variety of activities in a space normally dedicated to parked vehicles. Our city's participation in PARK(ing) Day each year has led to the creation of a parklet program and this pilot project could help encourage other installations.
In 2014, Nashville adopted a parklet program to allow organizations and businesses to lease a metered parking space and install a semi-permanent parklet for pedestrian use. The Moveable Fest is a mobile parklet installation along Nashville's high pedestrian traffic streets. A converted shipping container will provide the framework and structure for the parklet, outfitting the interior as a play areas for all ages. We envision a small climbing area, cargo net, stairs to a second level and circular slide from roof area to lower level. The floor is outfitted with a soft mat surface for safety.
With close proximity to many lower income neighborhoods, this moveable parklet can add much needed play space to downtown and urban neighborhoods, not to mention the many visitors walking our downtown streets from all walks of life.
