City of Miami
iPlay MIAMI Streets
The idea of the iPlay MIAMI Streets is to create designated spaces in low-income, urban communities throughout the City of Miami so that it is accessible for kids and families to play. To implement, the City Manager will designate dead-end streets as play space for kids closing vehicle traffic in those areas. Transforming dead-end streets into fun, unique spaces will inspire children and families to play and provide them with a safe, designated space to experience play.
The iPlay MIAMI Streets will include a kickball/baseball field, hopscotch and a game such as Twister in the middle of the field. Each of the 3 Play Streets will have different games in the middle of the field. This play idea will be painted on the pavement with semi-permanent, colorful paint. The games design will also incorporate cultural or educational motif.
The project will encourage exploration and imagination while children and adults of all ages and abilities are challenged to play in new ways. The Play Street locations will be conveniently located so kids and families can play on their way to school and visit the play spaces easily. The Play Streets will be inviting so kids and families feel excited and welcome to play in the spaces. Additionally, this project will engage the community (kids, families, adults, parents and caretakers, community businesses, etc.) to come together through play and outdoor activities.
