About the project

Stencil art, quotes and playable spaces that are only visible during inclement weather is the idea behind Sidewalk Chalk Flood 2.0. Partner school King Elementary has a 39% mobility rate and a 98% free and reduced lunch rate. In an effort to motivate kids to go to school during inclement weather, King Elementary students identified messages that were stenciled on sidewalks around the building that can only be seen when the weather is bad. Sidewalk Chalk Flood 2.0 encourages students with traditionally poor attendance during inclement weather to attend school, particularly those students who helped design and install the messages.

Community impact

Kids are excited about the opportunity to be engaged in a unique way. Students who helped with the installation have found a new sense of pride for their community, and now seem more engaged in after-school activities and attending summer school.
