The Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center transformed the public sidewalk in front of their center by adding asphalt games, signs and a public chalk walk. The center is also hosting a series of programs emphasizing the importance of active play, nutrition, and self-care.
Happy Lane incorporates aspects to promote both physical and mental health. One section invites those walking past to squat, jump, or run in place. Another shares healthy eating tips. There's also a chalkboard that asks onlookers "What makes you happy?" Kids have chalked in answers that range from "family" to "Minecraft." By including a variety of different playful challenges and components, kids are encouraged to think about how they can make play part of their daily lives.
