Enhance Learning

Closing the Gap

The achievement gap can begin at an early age, as kids of color have limited access to critical, quality learning opportunities at a disproportionate level. KABOOM! is committed to help close these gaps by creating content-rich playspaces that support language development and STE(A)M learning. We also work to incorporate engaging playful learning elements into public everyday spaces where kids live, move, and learn.

Through the years, our partnerships have enhanced or created rich play environments at childcare centers, schools, after-school organizations, and other learning hubs. This includes partnerships with the David and Lucille Packard Foundation in California communities, and Smart Start Georgia in the metro-Atlanta area, where we worked with community partners to build quality playspaces at early childcare centers.

Working with the William Penn Foundation

Most recently, our partnership with the William Penn Foundation continues to build community-informed playspaces that spark playful learning opportunities throughout Philadelphia communities that have experienced disinvestment. This includes Play Everywhere Philly, a $1 million city-wide competition to create innovative play opportunities in everyday spaces where kids can engage in learning through play.

Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation (PCDC), a Play Everywhere Philly community partner, turned Philadelphia’s 10th Street Plaza into a “PlayZa”. Their project will incorporate a map of Chinatown, games, and interactive learning features designed to foster literacy, active play, and cultural learning.
