McMillian’s First Steps Child Care

rigamajig Through play, kids in the McMillian’s First Steps community developed physically and socially despite the adversity of post-Katrina life. With an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, McMillian’s First Steps’ students will use Rigamajig to encourage problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, making play fun and educational.

Langston Hughes Academy Charter School

rigamajig Many students at Langston Hughes Academy cannot play outside after the school day as the community is still rebuilding from the hurricane’s damage. With a responsibility to ensure kids have safe opportunities to play, Langston Hughes will introduce Rigamajig to its younger and older students, to enhance mentorship, creativity, and learning.

Einstein Charter School

imagination playground Einstein Charter School opened in the immediate wake of Hurricane Katrina and flourished despite adverse circumstances. Play has been vital to the school’s community, helping students and families cope with stress and return to normalcy. Einstein celebrates play’s ability to help children develop the social skills all kids need to succeed in life.


rigamajig The community-built playground at VIET has become a landmark for the rebuilding of underserved and underrepresented communities post-Katrina. VIET plans to enhance its after school and summer programs that serve low- and medium-income families with Rigamajig’s unique blend of fun, innovative, and creative-thinking play opportunities.

Martin Behrman Charter School

imagination playground In the 10 years following Katrina, the students and families of Martin Behrman Charter School have experienced incredible amounts of change. They’ve found one way to help that anxiety: play. They’ve found that through play, kids can return to a place of normalcy, healing, health, and happiness.

Mildred Osborne Charter School

rigamajig Mildred Osborne Charter School’s teachers and staff understand why play is important to a child’s development. With Rigamajig, the school plans to provide a creative space where kids will innovate, problem-solve, learn the fundamentals of science, and work with one another to accomplish challenges.

Lycée Français de la Nouvelle-Orléans

rigamajig The staff at Lycée Français has witnessed firsthand how play with an Imagination Playground has helped kids develop confidence, social skills, and problem-solving skills. A new Rigamajig would further contribute to the playful atmosphere, grow the community, and allow children of all backgrounds to enjoy their time playing together.

Lamar County Park Partners

imagination playground A new Imagination Playground will help Lamar County Park Partners give kids and families, including those displaced by Hurricane Katrina and permanently moved to Lamar County, an opportunity to meet and interact.

Michael J. Kenney Recreation Center

imagination playground The City of Hammond served as a temporary home and emergency center after the storms. As time passed, Hammond became a permanent home for many that were displaced, creating new challenges for the city. With a new Imagination Playground, Hammond aims to foster diversity, generosity, teamwork, and community through play.

Hancock County School District

imagination playground In 2006, KaBOOM! helped build a playground on the temporary campus of South Hancock Elementary School, bringing children’s laughter back to a community whose homes were devastated by the hurricane. Now in its permanent location, the school plans to use Imagination Playground to help students learn, build, create, and play.

There are no wrong answers, and while the pieces can come together as a crane used to convey buckets or materials, they can also become a giraffe, monster, robot, airplane or just a "thingy."
