No, only residents of the United States may participate in this video contest. Playgrounds must be built on United States soil.
Your video, application and supporting documents must be complete and submitted to KaBOOM! by Friday, May 11, 2018at 11:59PM EST.
Create a short video (in English, Spanish, or both!) that tells others who you are, why having a place to play is important for your kids, and why your community needs a new playground. Your video should be creative and playful, and inspire others to share your message!
A panel of judges from KaBOOM! and Dr Pepper Snapple Group will determine the five winners. Winners will be determined based on demonstration of need for a new playground as well as overall content and quality of the video.
Feel free to enter a video in the contest, but be aware that if you are selected for a different KaBOOM! grant, you will no longer be eligible for the Video Contest grant, and vice versa.
In addition to making a video, you need to complete the application and provide supplemental materials in order to be considered as a finalist. You can access the application on apply.kaboom.org beginning on April 2, 2018.
It is highly recommend that you begin working on your application at the same time you begin your video so both are ready at the same time. It may take longer than you expect to gather all the materials required for your application! See the official rules for details.
Try borrowing a video camera or webcam from a friend, a relative, a local library, or school. Be sure that you'll be able to borrow not only the camera, but any accessories that come with it (battery charger, software, and cable to connect it to a computer). Note that many digital cameras and cell phones may limit your recording time and don't record audio. Be sure to test it first. Check out the tips page for more ideas.
If you're working from a video camera, it should come with a cable to connect itself to your computer. If you're working from a cell phone, you may be able to email the video to yourself. If not, contact your cell phone service provider for help.

The KaBOOM! Build a Playground Toolkit is a great planning tool to guide you through the community build playground planning process. It also contains many informational resources that will support you efforts to plan, fundraise and build a playground.
KaBOOM! cannot recover any unsaved responses that are lost due to power or internet outages. To avoid the risk of losing your application answers, we strongly recommend you save the application before leaving it for an extended period of time.
Set a project completion date or Build Date (when your playground will be constructed). Setting a firm Build Date and working backwards from that date improves your chance of success!
Make sure you're aware of all required documents before starting your application. You will be required to submit a number of supplemental documents in addition to complete narrative responses. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
Provide a detailed and complete fundraising plan. The review committee takes a very careful look at each applicant's fundraising plan to ensure that the applicant has the capacity to raise the necessary funds. Be sure to describe past successes and realistic future plans.
Give detailed examples of how you are using or plan to use the Community-Build Model. Use of the Community-Build Model is central to our grant programs and will only strengthen your application.
Make sure the estimated cost for playground equipment on your budget is at least $24,000. Applications that submit playground equipment (only) budgets of less than $24,000 will not be eligible.
Please do not send applications via postage mail or fax. We will only receive applications and materials via our online application system, so that everything can be received by the deadline.
