Today is the last day to help inform public policy by submitting your ideas about how to address childhood obesity to the White House Task Force. Don't delay! They have already received 800 comments so far. Says Melody Barnes, Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy:
Keep them coming!... We’ve asked all of you – parents, teachers, everyone with a stake in our children’s future – to join us in this effort, so we want to make sure we hear from you about what this effort should look like... We’re waiting to hear from you!
At KaBOOM!, we strongly believe that outdoor play is essential as part of a multi-pronged approach to end childhood obesity. A recent study in Health Affairs found that in neighborhoods without a park or playground, the incidence of childhood obesity increases an astounding 29 percent! We hope you’ll help us convey the importance of creating more outdoor playspaces, mapping all existing playspaces, and encouraging more outdoor play to our friends at the White House.
