A team effort gives 600 Minnesota kids a new place to play

Building a playground requires a team effort, and professional football players understand the importance of teamwork. On Friday, June 3, more than 200 volunteers from The Toro Company, the Minnesota Vikings, Robbinsdale Area Schools, and residents of the Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park and Crystal communities joined forces to build a new playground at Northport Elementary School.

The new playground will provide more than 600 children in the Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park and Crystal communities with a safe place to play. Currently, the children who attend Northport Elementary and those who live in the neighborhood do not have a modern playground within walking distance to enjoy. The Northport community provides a learning environment with high expectations for Belonging, being Empathetic, Achieving our highest potential, and showing Respect to all.

This will be the sixth playground build for which the Vikings, Toro and KaBOOM! have teamed up in an effort to fight the Play Deficit and save play. The annual playground build has been a cornerstone of the Vikings community outreach since the Wilf family purchased the team. As a Minnesota-based company providing turf and landscape maintenance equipment, and precision irrigation systems, Toro feels strongly about enhancing communities where employees live and work.
