Got rowdy kids in the house today? Take the holiday celebration outside! The National Wildlife Federation's "Be Out There" campaign has some great ideas and tips for incorporating nature into your holiday celebration, whether you're in a warm or cool climate. Most of these ideas can be implemented spur-of-the-moment, with minimal planning.
In particular, I love the idea of going for a walk outside after a big holiday meal...I remember as a kid that I often felt antsy after eating a heaping helping of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cherry salad, lefse, and pie. Taking a walk outside can not only burn off excess energy, but some of those extra calories we consume with our holiday meals as well!
