Remembering a different kind of play

New York Street GamesIt’s easy to romanticize the past, but the soon-to-be-released DVD, New York Street Games, can’t help but make you yearn for “the good old days.”

And no, New York Street Games is not the latest offering from Nintendo Wii. Rather, it’s a film that focuses on the days when children used to gather on the street to play with sticks, balls, chalk, and whatever else they had at their disposal. As stated on its website, the film…

“… captures a special time in American history and looks back at all things great about New York and past generations. From Boxball to Ring-o-leavio to Scully, the film addresses the social and cultural importance of these games and the sense of community they engendered.”

Each DVD purchase also includes a Street Games Rulebook so parents can pass these classic games along to their children. Another fun bonus? A portion of all proceeds benefit KaBOOM!.

Watching the trailer may cause overwhelming nostalgia and irresistible cravings for pink bouncy balls. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
