Recapture FUN: Plan a Play Day in Your Community

Remember play? That thing you used to do for the sheer joy of it – for no other reason than because it made you happy? Whether it was riding bikes, climbing trees, or playing hopscotch on the sidewalk, play was once a huge part of your life. Do you miss it – the feeling of freedom and fun? The feeling of the sun on your face and the breeze in your hair as you run across a field or spin on a tire swing?

Well, I have a secret: it’s all still there. Play hasn’t gone anywhere. It’s there, just waiting for you. Wouldn’t it be nice to recapture that spirit of joy and fun? To bring play back to your life and your community? To show kids how to have old-fashioned, unplugged fun – no outlets or batteries required? To get a chance to reconnect with friends and neighbors, and meet new ones?

How, you ask? By planning a Play Day to take place in your community any time the week of Sept. 19 -27. It could be a Family Field Day or a Bike Rodeo. You could host a park clean-up or a scavenger hunt – whatever sounds fun to you. You are only limited by your imagination, so dream big.
