It's so great to see such great press for our Stonyfield grant recipients. Here's a snippet from a Laurel, Md. Gazette article this week:
A college student and a Boys and Girls Club in Maine may not be the usual philanthropists for Laurel Elementary School, but the need for a new playground at Laurel Elementary was just too evident.
After raising money and filling out grant proposals to replace its existing playgrounds for over a year, Laurel Elementary was awarded $50,000 from Stonyfield Yogurt and KaBOOM! through the companies' "Double Play" Program. The program awarded $50,000 to the organization or school that collected the most specially marked Stonyfield yogurt lids to build or improve a play space. The winner would also choose another recipient from a list of KaBOOM! applicants for a grant of the same amount.
Catherine Elliott, a freshman at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, in tandem with the Boys and Girls Club of Lewiston/Auburn, collected the most lids. After looking at other applicants, they selected Laurel Elementary as the other recipient of the $50,000.
"We are absolutely honored and ecstatic," said Laurel Elementary Parent Teacher Association treasurer Eileen Collins.
There was also a mention of the project in the Laurel Leader.
