Five questions to help us measure our impact

At KaBOOM!, our vision is to build a playground within walking distance of every child in America. But how do we measure our work against our vision? In other words, how do we chart our true impact?

Nonprofits and foundations are committed to maximizing their impact and to telling their stories in accessible, concise ways. People want to help charitable organizations make a difference – through donations, volunteering, and more – but often struggle to find a succinct, consistent resource that clarifies what a nonprofit wants to achieve and has already accomplished.

We're excited about a new initiative, Charting Impact, that asks five simple yet powerful questions to help organizations individually and the sector collectively better serve people across the country and around the world. This framework, a joint effort of BBB Wise Giving Alliance, GuideStar USA and Independent Sector, was developed, tested, and refined by nearly 200 nonprofit and philanthropic leaders.

For the sector, Charting Impact provides a vehicle that organizations of all types, sizes, and missions can use, making it easier for organizations to collaborate and for potential supporters to direct their time and funds to those groups that are making a difference.

We look forward to charting our impact and sharing the results with you. If you work in the nonprofit sector, you can join this effort by creating your unique Charting Impact Report at
