Community builds great playspace in Pontiac, Mich.

I thought this was a really cool writeup on a build KaBOOM! and The Home Depot helped with this week in Pontiac, Mich. Here's a snippet:

In an impoverished neighborhood in this financially-strapped city -- right between store signs proclaiming "HABLAMOS ESPANOL" and a two-bedroom "FORECLOSURE" offered for a measly $900 -- volunteers spread out across Baldwin Park on Thursday to build a playground.

On this chilly spring morning, the activity was one that warmed the hearts and souls of people like Naomi Rankin, watching from a Howard Street address as her 5-year-old grandson, Jose Deras, danced nearby to the Temptations' "Cloud Nine" blasting from a park speaker.

"This is really something," said Rankin, smiling at the scene unfolding across the street. "This is really something good for the kids."

I also loved this quote, from another article on the build:

"I like all of it, but the swings are my favorite," said 6-year-old Zakiya Brown, who lives near the park.
