How does building a playground in Dorchester, Mass. help children from Haiti? Dorchester’s diverse, working-class community houses a significant population of Haitian immigrants, with more and more arriving after the country’s devastating earthquake.
The Kenny School is receiving new students weekly from Port-au-Prince and other areas of Haiti. The school serves 320 students, ages one to 11. Seventy percent receive free or reduced lunches, and 70 percent are English language learners.
Many of the Kenny School’s students have never had access to a playground. The PTA and school community would like to change that by transforming the empty field pictured above into an exciting and dynamic playspace.
Help the Kenny School get $5,000 toward playground equipment! Watch their video entry to our Promote Your Project Video Contest and cast your vote.
