'09 Flashback: Our web tools build playgrounds!

Happy New Year! This will be the final installment of our 2009 flashback series, to celebrate the start of 2010.

When people think of KaBOOM!, they tend to think of our built-in-a-day playgrounds, and understandably so. After all, we built 162 of them this year with community volunteers and our generous corporate partners.

However, what many people don't know is that we also offer all our playground building know-how for free on the web, for those who want to build a playground but either don't qualify for one of our funding opportunities or just want to go about the process by themselves. And thanks to all the tools and resources we offer online, over 1,616 playgrounds were built by communities around the country this year!

How did it happen? Let's break it down by the numbers.

  • 6,086 people were trained, thanks to the 201 training sessions we offered online this year. (And did you know these training sessions are free? All you need is a computer with an Internet connection!)
  • We launched a brand-new project planner that people can use to plan a playground project, start to finish.
  • Furthermore, 16 grants were awarded to communities across the country through KaBOOM! and our generous corporate partners.
  • For those who have built playgrounds in the past and want to continue doing good things to change their communities, we launched the KaBOOM! Alumni Network, which now has 506 members.
  • And 9,302 people have joined the KaBOOM! online community this year so they can share their playground building know-how with each other.

See more amazing stats!

How can we keep this momentum going in 2010? Donate now to help provide valuable trainings and new online resources to folks who are ready and willing to make a difference in their communities by building great places for children to play.
