During a Design Jam hosted by San Francisco Recreation and Parks, kids offered their expertise in play to help dream up a new nature exploration area
KABOOM! is partnering with San Francisco Recreation and Parks, Kaiser Permanente, and Bienenstock to create a nature exploration area at Heron’s Head Park. This innovative playspace will look different than a typical KABOOM! playground — kids will be encouraged to balance on logs, play in mud, and use natural materials to build dens, castles, and towers.
By combining natural challenges with movable parts, the exploration area will offer the benefits of play — promoting physical activity, stimulating creativity, and encouraging teamwork and risk negotiation among kids — all while cultivating an appreciation for nature.
During the creation of any KABOOM! playspace, we center the needs and wants of the kids who will be enjoying it. During a Design Jam hosted by San Francisco Recreation and Parks, kids offered their expertise in play to help shape the future of Heron’s Head Park.
