KaBOOM! Community FAQ
KaBOOM! FAQ - Playspace Building FAQ - KaBOOM! Community - KaBOOM! Map of Play FAQ
Q. What is the KaBOOM! Community?
A. The KaBOOM! Community, http://hello.kaboom.org, is a place for playground builders and play advocates to share stories, ask questions, and connect with one another in the spirit of play.
Q. How do I join the community?
A. If you've ever been on a KaBOOM! Community Build, started a project, hosted a play day, or used the Playspace Finder, you likely are already one of tens of thousands of members!
Q. I've created a profile and I'm now a KaBOOM! member. Now what?
A. Great! Thanks for joining. Now you should check out the different parts of your profile.
-
Profile
On this page, you can add more information about yourself, add a picture of yourself, change your email address and password, and adjust your email settings.
-
Following
On your Following page, you'll see all the activity from the playgrounds you've fanned, play days you're attending, and projects you've joined. If you just joined our site, you likely won't see anything yet, but once you start participating on the site, this area will really start to fill up. Think of it as a news feed for everything you care about most in play. Only you can see this page, and you'll only see it if you are signed in to KaBOOM!.
-
Activity
Your Activity page is visible to everyone who visits your profile and shows everything you've done across the KaBOOM! website. From the project's you've launched to the playgrounds you've fanned, it's a running list of your KaBOOM! activity. You can filter this page by clicking the Show Only Posts link to only show the posts you've made in the community.
-
Photos
Your photos page is visible to everyone who visits your profile and shows all the photos you've ever uploaded to the KaBOOM! website.
-
The Side of Your Profile
The right side of your profile shows the projects you've joined, the playgrounds you've fanned, and all the badges you've earned from participating in the community.
Q. What's a badge for?
A. You will earn badges as you participate on the site. They are a fun way to show off how you've supported the cause of play. They're your roadmap for how you can help us map playgrounds, build playgrounds, and advocate for play.
Q. What are these icons I see in my Activity page?
A. Those icons represent the location, from different points on the KaBOOM! website, that the story you are reading originated.

Q. How do I post a story or upload photos?
A. Just click into any box that looks like this:
Type our your story or question, upload some photos, and click the Share button.
Q. Where will the stories and photos go?
Everything you post will go to the main activity feed on http://hello.kaboom.org/, but it can also appear in a few other places.
- If you post on another member's profile, the post will appear on their profile's Following page, and on your own profile's Activity page.
- If you post from within a group, the post will appear on the group's Activity page, on your own profile Activity page, and in the Following pages for anyone who is a member of that group.
- If you post on a playground, project, or play day, the content you added will appear on those respective page, and it will also appear as a story on the Following pages for anyone else that has fanned the playground or joined the project or play day.
Q. You have groups?
A: Yeah, they are pretty cool too. Go to http://hello.kaboom.org/groups to see the full list and join a few. Once you join one, activity from within the group will appear on your profile’s Following page.
Q. I'm a longtime member of the KaBOOM! community and I was wondering why you changed things again and what happened to some of my stuff. My messages and friends are gone.
A: This is a good question and there is a long, technical, and stuffy answer that I would love to talk to you more about.
For the sake of brevity, I’ll just say that we believe this latest iteration of the KaBOOM! Community has the best chance of spurring more conversations, stories, and collaboration than ever before. We cut out the features people didn’t like to use, and refocused things on the features (we think) people will use. We set out to simplify the community and make a more friendly and fun website to use. If you think we succeeded or failed, let us know on the KaBOOM! Site Updates group.
Q. I have more questions about the community.
A: Great. Would you consider posting them to the community? You can also email jcooper@kaboom.org if you need more help or information.
