First Lady Michelle Obama Teams Up With KaBOOM!

First Lady Michelle Obama has partnered with KaBOOM! to build two playgrounds. Most recently, the First Lady joined KaBOOM! on June 15, 2011 to celebrate our 2,000th community playground build by mixing concrete, assembling playground components, using the KaBOOM! mobile app Playgrounds! to upload the playground to the Map of Play and providing inspirational words to more than 500 volunteers who built a playground in a single day at Imagine Southeast Public Charter School in Washington D.C.

The First Lady joined Members of Congress on the Congressional Day of Service, volunteers from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and hundreds of volunteers from the Southeast Washington D.C. to build the new 4,000 square foot playground in less than eight hours.

On June 22, 2009, First Lady Michelle Obama attended her first KaBOOM! project and helped build an intergenerational playground at Bret Harte Elementary School in San Francisco along with California First Lady Maria Shriver, CaliforniaVolunteers and volunteers from the local community.
