The partnership will result in seven new playgrounds built across the country by volunteers that will provide 52,500 children with a great place to play. KaBOOM! will work with Mutual of Omaha and the Mutual of Omaha Foundation to build two playgrounds in Omaha with additional playgrounds to be built in Denver, Dallas, Phoenix, St. Louis and Tampa. The partnership kicks off on Feb. 5 in Omaha with a Design Day at The Salvation Army’s Camp Eppley facility where children will gather to draw their dream playgrounds. Elements from those drawings, and subsequent Design Days, will be incorporated into the final designs for each of the playgrounds. The Home Depot Foundation Becomes Official KaBOOM! Sustainability Partner Jan. 6, 2009 -- KaBOOM! is proud to announce that in 2009, The Home Depot Foundation will become the official Sustainability Partner of KaBOOM!. Together we are deepening our efforts to minimize the environmental impact of our projects. We're not only continuing to recycle and reuse materials at each site, but we’re also incorporating sustainable enhancement projects like compost bins, tree planting and rainwater collection. In addition, we'll educate children and community partners nationwide about this important issue by integrating environmentally-friendly service learning projects with each project. The Home Depot Foundation and KaBOOM! will also work with other organizations that lead large-scale community projects to develop a set of universal standards for indoor or outdoor environmentally sustainable volunteer projects. The resulting guidelines, available online later this year, will help managers of volunteer-driven, building-related community development projects follow environmentally sustainable practices. Throughout the month of October, 24 Hour Fitness will donate $1 from the monthly dues of Houston area members to KaBOOM! to help build the playgrounds. 24 Hour Fitness team members will join members and community volunteers to build the first playground on December 13, with a second playground to be built in early 2009. Locations for both playgrounds will be announced at a later date. 24 Hour Fitness club members will also be invited to donate through an in-club fundraising campaign, with all proceeds going to KaBOOM!.
