Ideas for play and playgrounds from around the globe....

I've found that no matter how breathtaking the scenery, no matter how fabulous the food, what children really enjoy about any vacation are the new playgrounds they get to play in.  This was certainly the case during a recent trip to Budapest.  Happily for us, the city takes playgrounds ve....

City or Town Hall meetings

I am new to this group and even more green to city politics.  I don't know if this will help anyone but it might since I didn't know before 10 days ago maybe it will.  If your city will benefit from a playground, like in my case at an elementary school, you may want to get a group of city residents together and speak at your city council meetings.  That is what a few of us did last week and it does look favorable to getting funds.  The worst they can say is no and you are only out a couple of hours and a few strained nerves if you are like me and fear public speaking.   Our city has approx 38000 residents and the council, although voted in, does not get paid very much, if anything.  They are people that really do care about the city and may not even know of a playground need.  The small group of parents that went to the CC last meeting were specifically asking for funding of a school playground, but I did talk about the fact that in my area the playground is old, and not entirely safe and that we have to drive to go to the other side of the city to get to a nice safe playground.  Have as many details of need, logistics and cost as you can, and bring paper copies of any information that you have enough for the council members.  I even brought a picture of the lot.  Although we were emotional we did not speak in anger.  It is worth the time to ask because you are just bringing a city or town need to their attention.
