Volunteer recruitment at a school

Our build is over.  I can now breathe--I think.  We are Jewish Day School with about 200 families. It was amazing, it turned out that 180 volunteers showed up the day of the build.  I still don't know how some people heard about it.  We al....

Can anyone tell me how the depth of compressed wood mulch is measured?  I have checked in the ASTM and I know how thick it should be.  Do we just dig a bunch of holes and use a ruler?  Tim ....

Matching Sponsorships

Hello to all in the KaBOOM! Community!  This is just an idea that I thought I should pass along...

We're embarking on a fundraising campaign to finalize our budget, and we've decided to ask for Matching Sponsorships.  Members of the fundraising committee will be conducting 50/50 "raffles" at local events, like "Music in the Park".

To maximize these efforts, we've asked the business and civic community to "match" these raffles.  They can choose to match the raffles any way they want to...up to a specific $ amount, for a specific date, or for any or all of the events that the fundraising committee participates in.  What this allows us to do is actively encourage the sale of tickets by reminding people that every dollar contributed is matched.  Our efforts will be starting soon, and I'll let you know how well it works.

Hi-- I did this during a recent coin drive-- we solicited a few businesses that we had parent-connections through, and asked them to match $25 dollars per classroom, and we got three businesses to do that.  Since we have 21 classrooms, it amounted to a good sum of money!  But they really liked the idea that the matching grant was "doubling their money", as it also helped with the parents of the kids and the kids themselves--to bring in their coins and see them "double".

We also offered "parent matching grants" per classroom, too... of any amount.  We had them vary from $10 up to $100.  Most were $25 dollars.  Our coin drive raised over $7,000 dollars this way.  The kids raised almost $5,000 in coins/bills, and the rest was "matching grants".

Good luck with the raffle!

This is a great idea I can't wait to bring to our committee.  Look into fraternal groups.  Catholic Family Life Insurance or Union saint Jean Baptise groups sometimes partners up with fundraisers, matching up to $250 or $300 for an event.  Perhaps a couple such partners can multiply the results of each activity.

PEOPLE DO LOVE TO MATCH FUNDS.  WHEN YOU DO GET A NICE DONATION, MAKE SURE TO THANK THOSE THAT DONATED IN PROJECT UPDATES OF ANY KIND (PAPER, NEWSLETTER, WEBSITE, ETC...).  YOU'LL BE SURPRISED HOW GETTING THE WORD OUT MAKES OTHERS WANT TO EITHER MATCH, OR BEAT GENEROUS DONATIONS!!!!
