Ideas for play and playgrounds from around the globe....

I've found that no matter how breathtaking the scenery, no matter how fabulous the food, what children really enjoy about any vacation are the new playgrounds they get to play in.  This was certainly the case during a recent trip to Budapest.  Happily for us, the city takes playgrounds ve....

Website Creation Questions
Posted: 04 Jun 08 4:48 PM

Hi all..  I have some (lots!) questions about creating the website.

Is there a way that I can put music on the site?  I want to put Whitney Houston's song that starts out " I believe the children are our Future..." and I want it to start automatically when the page is openend.

Is there a "goal meter" that I can put on there?

Is there a visitor counter that I can put on?

How do I change the color of the quote text?   ( or is it doomed to be purple forever?)

Is it a violation of copyright laws if I put pictures that the kids have picked from supplier catalogs on the site?

Thanks for any and all help.

Great questions mufasa! I think I can help.

Is there a way that I can put music on the site? I want to put Whitney Houston's song that starts out " I believe the children are our Future..." and I want it to start automatically when the page is open end.

I did some digging around for widgets that you can copy and paste on to your site and found a really cool one from Amazon.com. I went ahead and add it to your site (you will have to be logged in to see the widget: http://projects.kaboom.org/bradleysd). It gives people the ability to play the song, but you can't choose the actual clip that's played and it doesn't auto-play. I will keep looking for something else. If anyone else wants to try, just follow the instructions Amazon.com at http://widgets.amazon.com/Amazon-MP3-Clips-Widget/ (you don't have to sign-up) and paste the code it gives you at the end of the process into an HTML box on you website. Make sure when you paste that the box is set to "Basic Text Box".

Is there a "goal meter" that I can put on there?

No. But there is a thermometer you can place on your project's Planner page. When you registered your project, it was placed into the KaBOOM! Project Directory. This allows you to build a website, but you also have access to other great tool and resources in the Project Planner. Here is the link to your project: Bradley Playground. Login with your kaboom.org username and password and you will have access a task manager, fundraising thermometer, and materials manager.

Is there a visitor counter that I can put on?

I recommend Site Meter, which you can find at http://www.sitemeter.com.

How do I change the color of the quote text? ( or is it doomed to be purple forever?)

Unfortunately, that quote style is stuck with the page style. If you can let me know how you would like it to look (size, color, left-aligned, etc.), I'll do some web hacking to get it the way you want.

Is it a violation of copyright laws if I put pictures that the kids have picked from supplier catalogs on the site?

Yes it is. If you are looking for cheap and non-copyright images, try istockphoto.com. You can usually find good pictures for a dollar or two. I recommend, however, using pictures of kids in your community-- the ones that will be using the playground! Just make sure you get their parents permission before posting.
