Ideas for play and playgrounds from around the globe....
posted by jblumstock  on Nov 27 2008
I've found that no matter how breathtaking the scenery, no matter how fabulous the food, what children really enjoy about any vacation are the new playgrounds they get to play in.  This was certainly the case during a recent trip to Budapest.  Happily for us, the city takes playgrounds ve....

Playspace locator and contact info
Posted: 26 Mar 07 5:38 PM

Is there any way we can get a map that allows us to locate builds around the country?  I'm trying to send friends and family to builds, but it's very frustrating.  They can't just his Kansas and find out if there are any sites coming up.

Also, how can I contact somebody who has a site registered?  I see, for instance, that there is a Santa Teresa site registered in San Jose and I have volunteers and tools that the build could use, but have no contact info..please, please make this easy for us to connect.

Final question..my mom lives in the far reaches of Northern California in the Redding area and she saw a banner that had KaBOOM! and Habitat info on it.  Now she can't remember where she was driving when she saw it and wants to know if there's a build going on or not.

Thanks!

Hi Randi,

Presently, the easiest way to volunteer for a build is to visit the project directory (http://kaboom.org/DoItYourselfResources/RegisterYourProject/tabid/192/Default.aspx) and search by city for builds in your area. You can then contact the project leader whose name is listed under the About Us tab on the project website. Project leaders can be contacted through the message feature on the project website (you have to be logged into the project website with your KaBOOM username and password) or through the About Me page (Member Directory).

Upcoming Operation Playground builds are listed on the KaBOOM website: http://www.kaboom.org/AboutUs/WhatIsKaBOOM/OperationPlayground/tabid/112/Default.aspx

The Volunteer thread on the forum also advertises builds that need volunteers and there is a KaBOOM build on April 30th at Franklin Elementary School, 850 E Colton, Ave, Redlands, CA, 92374.

I hope this information is helpful. KaBOOM! is working on making the volunteering process easier and users will be alerted once the changes are complete.

Thanks,

Peace

We don’t put KaBOOM!-led builds up on the web site. These builds are paid for by corporations and are frequently a day of service or teambuilding exercise. We can't always have outside people come in as volunteers. When we can have outside volunteers, we'll post them at the link below. We don't usually get a lot of notice, though.

There are a couple of other things you can do.

Post your offer here on the forums:

http://kaboom.org/Forums/tabid/58/forumid/3268/scope/threads/Default.aspx

Be sure to mention where you are, but don’t put up phone numbers or email addresses. You’ll get picked up by spammers. People who are interested will be able to reach you through your login name here on the site.

Another option is a web site that is much better set up for individual volunteers:

http://www.volunteermatch.com

They aren't affiliated with KaBOOM! directly, but there are playspace builds in there. I’m also pretty sure Habitat has a special area just for them. I'm trying to get some of the KaBOOM!-led playgrounds in there as the need for volunteers becomes clear. You might also find other opportunities to help children and your community.

I love the impulse that has you organizing your family like this and it pains me not to be able to just send you a nice, neat list of builds. Have you thought about looking around your own community and doing a build yourself? We’ve had other family groups do it. Let me know if you want more information.
