Coming Soon!!!

Making Your Build Day Green
Oct. 1, 2008 (3:00-4:00 p.m. EST)
Here at KaBOOM! we believe a successful Build Day couples volunteer enthusiasm with a steadfast commitment to eco-friendliness. There are a number of ways that you can employ the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) as you prepare for your upcoming Build Day. In this webinar, you will hear some ideas on how to reduce food waste, recycle equipment packaging, and reuse Build Day tools, in addition to ideas for making a greener play environment! Join us as we learn how to care for the greatest of all playspaces – our natural environment.

Why Play Matters
Oct. 7, 2008 (4:30-5:30 p.m. EST)
Would you like to become a better advocate for play? Have you been searching for the right language to discuss play with school administrators, school board members, municipal officials, parks and recreation administrators, teachers and other decision-makers? Join guest hosts Rachel Grob, Barbara Schecter, and Cheryl French from Sarah Lawrence College in New York City as they discuss and provide evidence supporting the developmental benefits of play including cognitive, social, and physical domains. This session will also provide insight into the various types of play and why play is important to children’s quality of life. Get ready to ask questions, share ideas, and learn what you can do to make play a priority in your community.

I am so excited that KaBOOM! has launched its first Webinar about how to make your playground Build Day more environmentally friendly!  I attended and thought it was GREAT.  I think so many people have questions about this, and it's so important.  Often when you get funders for a playground project they want to see that you have a plan for making sure you're taking care of being green and putting that thought into such a big volunteer event.  I hope we see more of these in the future - maybe specific topics like how to source materials responsibly in addition to thinking about the volunteer event side of things.  I'd love to see someone like Rusty Keeler from Planet Earth Playscapes come on one of these webinars to talk to folks about how to have a playspace made entirely out of a planned natural environment too.
