Last week, I posted this article. It really tore at my heartstrings because the situation seemed so hopeless for these kids who were losing their park, with no hope for a replacement park to be built anytime soon. The kids weren't letting their park go without a fight, though, and took to the streets and waved signs protesting the park's impending closure.
But today, I saw this article and had to share it. The kids' work made a difference and the city has pledged to replace the playground! It's such a great example of how raising your voice CAN make a difference in the state of play.
Now this just made me happy. I love that kids felt so strongly that they (and their parents) felt empowered and took a stand to protect a playspace. The fact that they got this promise from the city just made my heart sing.
I hope the city follows through.
