Ideas for play and playgrounds from around the globe....
posted by jblumstock  on Nov 27 2008
I've found that no matter how breathtaking the scenery, no matter how fabulous the food, what children really enjoy about any vacation are the new playgrounds they get to play in.  This was certainly the case during a recent trip to Budapest.  Happily for us, the city takes playgrounds ve....

Calculating Concrete
Posted: 20 Aug 07 4:09 PM

Hi:

Does anyone have some tried and true calculations on estimating how many 50 lb. bags of concrete mix are needed per Cubic Yard?  How about the 80 lb bags?

Thanks!

Our playground rep was able to pin point how much we needed and made a recommendation.

I would buy a few extra's... just in case. We bought 301 80lbs bags and we still had to run out and get 15 more at 2:00 on our build day. Everything haulted but we used the time wisely- a local ice cream store surprised us with a ice cream party for all 160 volunteers + the kids!

Thanks!  It's a good idea to have a back-up plan - especially one that keeps volunteers happy while there is a break in the action.

And, in answering my own question:   I did some resarch, and based on information from online do-it-yourself pages, it takes about 40 - 80lb bags per cubic yard / and about 65 - 50lb bags per cubic yard.

I don't know the answer but just wanted to suggest that if you haven't tried contacting the concrete companies already in your area, do--ours was able to help our playground out by having a delivery of already mixed concrete, which was just poured into the volunteer wheelbarrows so they could scoop it into the various holes.  It made it go so much faster.  They did this as a donation, all they needed from us was our tax ID number and an application for a donation from them.
