Can anyone tell me how the depth of compressed wood mulch is measured?  I have checked in the ASTM and I know how thick it should be.  Do we just dig a bunch of holes and use a ruler?  Tim ....

Safety Equipment for Children
Posted: 29 Jul 07 11:57 PM

Does anyone have a suggestion on how we could obtain helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, etc. for children that can not afford purchasing these extra safety items?

You could always write to different companies that manufacture all of those items and see if they would be willing to donate them to the skatepark for children to sign out, borrow, or use while they are at your skatepark. The worst they can say is no. You could also check out the fundraising section of the KaBOOM! website and try to raise some funds for children's safety. Many people are very passionate about the safety of children and may be willing to help!

Try checking with the children's hospitals in your state.  I think that our local hospital receives a visit one time per month from someone that will measure kids heads and then get them an appropriate fitting helmet, for free.  They also do monthly car seat safety checks and that kind of thing.  I would just call and see if they might already do something like this, and then they could give you the number of what company to call to have the items provided as part of your play/skatepark project.

Another suggestion would be to contact manufacturers of these items, but also, go online and try to contact people who are famous within the skateboarding world already... try to locate their managers and go through their manager... they may be willing to donate some stuff, or provide you with some funds to purchase those things, in exchange for some positive promotion/press time.
