Does anybody know where I could pick up a handout of the ADA guidlines? Its I guess like 32 pages and I just can't print out that many. I don't think I would have enough ink, and the library charges an arm and leg for one copy. So if anyone has any information on how I could get a copy or if anyone could send a copy to me at my home address. I really do need it.
Thank You!
Hi Sammy-- I don't know of a brochure type of summary but if you go to a search engine and type in ADA playground requirements into the search box, it does pull up some good links that are shorter than the 32 page one that you found. Just keep in mind, too, that your vendor/designer will help quite a bit with meeting some of those ADA requirements in terms of the equipment choices and the ratios of accessible play events to non-accessible ones... they may know some of the other things like surfacing requirements... for ramps leading to the playground, you'd want to find out what is the steepest angle allowed and stay under that amount. I hope someone here will have a link for you but if you not, try looking online and then highlight, copy and paste the info that you need into a Word document, and then print it...that way you could probably get away with less printing charges at the library.
thanks once again! I do understand that they would help me but for me to have my own copy would be much easier just so that I know ahead of time what I need and so forth. But, if it is no problem then that would be awesome, and I would really appreciate it. If you recieve this anytime soon, I would appreciate a comment back! =)
Thank You Very Much! =)
I'm so excited to get this started!!
Sammy:
I just attended the KaBOOM! WE Play Training in Los Angeles, and met with some people who advocate for Universally Accessible Playgrounds.
When you get farther into the research process, you'll discover that the playground manufacturers will certify that their playground designs conform to ADA standards. A Universally Accessible Playground is different than one that meets ADA standards...The Universally Accessible Playground is designed to give kids of any ability access to any part of the playground structure!
