Volunteer recruitment at a school

Our build is over.  I can now breathe--I think.  We are Jewish Day School with about 200 families. It was amazing, it turned out that 180 volunteers showed up the day of the build.  I still don't know how some people heard about it.  We al....

Costs for Side Projects (good to know for budgeting)
Posted: 13 Feb 07 5:44 PM

Hi! I am working on the intial budget and wondered if there is a ballpark cost for some of the side projects. The instructional packet for the play house quotes it at about $650 per house (obviously more or less based on where materials are purchased and any modifications made to the design) but did not notice a quote on the picnic tables, outdoor classroom, potting benches, etc. Has someone posted these prices somewhere? Having this will help in the initial budget at a high level.

Thanks!

Hello,

Not sure if you still need cost estimates, but I have some information regarding picnic tables:

Basic 5' ones from Lowes or Home Depot are between $70-$90.

Steel perforated ones are typically arount $650 per table from equipment vendor or numerous websites.

Good luck,

Good question!  If you're using our side project plans to create these things from scratch, buying just the wood & hardware at a store like the Home Depot, I have some cost estimates for you.  They're definitely estimates-- the cost of wood varies around the country, especially depending on whether you use pressure treated wood, untreated whitewood like pine, or something really nice like redwood.

Planter Benches-- around $300

Picnic Tables-- around $200

Outdoor Classroom-- this varies depending on the number of benches you're building, but the cost per individual bench is about $35-$40.

Let us know what you think of these side projects!  We have created a Wiki page for our side projects so you can add comments, cost estimates & even change the instructions to make them better: http://kaboom.stikipad.com/sideprojects/.

Another thing-- you can go to The Home Depot website and find the exact cost of all the pieces of lumber & hardware you need for your projects if you want a really precise estimate!  I find this to be a helpful tool when managing a really tight budget.  Hope this helps!
