Playing at work
Posted: 29 May 08 1:59 PM Modified By jcooper on 5/29/2008 2:10:59 PM)

How does your office have fun? Is it fried food and spirits during a happy hour? Do you pull pranks by putting each other's staplers in jello? Do you compete to see who can put the most pencils in the drop ceiling? After a long day of faxing, phone calls, reports, and meetings, sometimes you need a few moments to repose yourself before once again diving into the trenches.

There is no shortage of different ways to play at KaBOOM!, but the KaBOOM! Web Team likes to make its own fun. Using some Bloxes (cube-ish, cardboard lego-type things; google it!) we created a game to help get the blood flowing once again.

The Rules:

  1. Using small pieces of waded up paper, a player has 5 chances to score points by throwing the paper into one of four scoring baskets.
  2. Each basket is worth 2 to 5 points, depending on the level of difficulty of the shot.
  3. Points are added to a rolling tally of scores.
  4. That's it.

There is a four point shot behind Nicole's head that you can't see. It's a coffee mug. What makes the 3 point shot difficult is how shallow the bowl is, causing many shots to bounce back out.

When we constructed the game, we never expected anyone to get the five point shot. Well last Friday, Nicole shocked us all but getting the coveted five pointer on her first shot of the day.

Here are the scores so far:

  • Nicole: 11 points
  • Jason: 4 points
  • Annie: 2 points
The only thing we don't have for the game yet is a name. Any suggestions? We want to know your office games too! Just because we work hard doesn't mean we can't play too. How do you and your coworkers sneak some play into the work day?

Update!

Everyone's favorite KaBOOM! National Campaign for Play manager, Ben Duda, has become only the second person to score five points in our game.
