Playtime for Grandma
Posted: 12 Feb 08 11:03 AM
I found this over the weekend and I am finally getting around to sharing it-- playgrounds for people over 60 years old!

An excerpt from the article:
Instead of slides and roundabouts, it is equipped with machines specially designed to provide gentle exercise for different parts of the body such as hips, legs and torso.

The Massage offers upper body exercise, the Skate trains leg muscles, the Ski works the hips, while the Press tones the stomach and legs.

There are also stations for pull-ups, push-ups and pedalling and, to stretch the mind as well as the body, engravings of quotes from famous philosophers dotted around the park.
Here is a link to the article: Playtime for Grandma: Council opens new playground for the over-60s

Look how happy they are!

It could be at a senior center.  Or maybe a retirement community.  I know some parks try to incorporate fitness activites for seniors to put up so they can attract and serve all ages.

I have also seen such fitness activities incorporated outside of hospitals, libraries, and even college campuses.  I think it is ideal if the fitness equipment can be linked to a walking path and have access to shade and water fountains nearby.
