| I am a writer from Milwaukee, Wisconsin finishing a novel about Joe Delaney -- the Haughton, LA native, NFL star who gave his life trying to save some boys from drowning in 1983.
A memorial park in Haughton was planned after his death, but nearly 25 years later, only a sign "Joe Delaney Memorial Park" makes up the park. It would almost be better without the sign. It's depressing, that someone that gave his life, is honored with this empty field. A great idea, that never happened. I would love to be a part of creating a beautiful place, (a well landscaped park with playground and wading pool with sprinklers, and memorial wall) for this small community to enjoy, and also remember their hero.
My goal would be to have this park completed by June 29th, 2008 in rememberance of the 25th anniversary of his death. |
