Playground Featured on CNN This Weekend!

In an overwhelming show of dedication, strength and heart, more than 600 volunteers worked side-by-side on December 17, 2005, to build a new community playground in Bay St. Louis, MS.  The project kicked off Operation Playground: Rebuilding Playgrounds; Restoring Childhoods, the new two-year KaBOOM! initiative to build 100 playgrounds in Gulf Coast communities affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Our Bay St. Louis playground, which was the first new structure constructed in the town after Hurricane Katrina, will be featured this weekend in CNN Presents Saving My Town: The Fight for Bay St. Louis, a documentary that examines what it takes to rebuild a community -- physically and psychologically -- from the ground-up.  CNN's Kathleen Koch will take viewers on a personal journey as she explores these issues in Bay St. Louis, her hometown.  Saving My Town: The Fight for Bay St. Louis will air this Saturday and Sunday, February 18 and 19, at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET.  Don't miss it!  Make sure to log back onto the KaBOOM! Web Portal after the show to post your comments in one of our forums!

I saw the story on CNN and was very touched. It is hard to imagine what this community has gone through and is still going through. I am inspired and in awe of this community. Despite the chaos all around them, the citizens of Bay St. Louis came togther to build a great place to play for the kids. While this event may seem small compared to the massive work that still needs to be done, the kids deserved a place where they can be kids. This amazing playground gives them that and it is symbolic of the strength and resolve of this community.
