 Over the last several decades, toys in America have taken a sharp turn away from homemade, simple treasures, and toward more pre-packaged, store-bought amusements. But now with new toy recalls being announced almost daily, educators in the Parents as Teachers early childhood parent education program think it's time to get back to basics. These mentors suggest parent-produced, developmentally-appropriate, creative toys and games to the families they serve, and also encourage non-violent, inclusive play between parents and children.
