Building A Playground In Carol Vegas Park, Bay St. Louis, MSBy Carol Ellis On December 17th, 2005, KaBOOM! built the first of the Operation Playground projects on the Gulf Coast at Carol Vegas Park in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Since then, the park has become a gathering place for the community as families and neighbors enjoy some playtime in the midst of rebuilding their lives in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The park is so well utilized that children could often be seen standing in line to have a turn on the swings. To make sure more children have the opportunity to enjoy the flying sensation of swings, KaBOOM!, The Home Depot, Playworld Systems, and Hands On Network returned to Carol Vegas today to install 2 more bays of swings. Mayor Eddie Favre; Presidential Service Award Recipient Jimmy Loiacano; Matt, Dale, and Joan Miller of Playworld Systems; KaBOOM! Co-founder and CEO Darell Hammond; and 45 eager volunteers participated in the emotional day. Project Manager Jane Duket led the project, her second during this Anniversary Week having built a large playground with 400 volunteers at Beck Park in Biloxi yesterday.
