Rubber Mulch Chips: Playground Fire Hazard?

Osceola County is ordering an investigation into whether rubber mulch chips on playground are too flammable to use and a danger to children.

The investigation comes after flames engulfed a Buenaventura Lakes playground on Sunday.

The Fire Marshal's Office says it took nothing more than a lighter to set the blaze.

It's very sad to hear about this when so many people are working hard to make playspaces available to all and to make them safe. I hope that the fire marshall's report includes rubber matting as well. I'd like to know if that is considered highly flammable. I'll continue to look to the portal for updates.
