Sam Oshinksy Celebrates Important Milestone By Giving the Gift of Play!

Donation to Operation Playground part of his Bar Mitzvah celebration

To celebrate his Bar Mitzvah, Sam Oshinsky of Bethesda, MD, will give the gift of play to thousands of Gulf Coast children by making a donation to Operation Playground, our two-year initiative to build 100 playgrounds in Gulf Coast communities affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

After learning about KaBOOM! and watching a video his brother made while on a hurricane recovery trip to New Orleans, Sam knew exactly how he wanted to allocate his donation. His brothers video showed him the devastating state of the Gulf Coast and how badly its communities and children were in need of play.

Sam chose to donate to KaBOOM! because of our innovative community build model: children and the community have a voice in the process; corporations and community organizations work together; community volunteers help raise funds needed for the project; and playspace designs are based on the drawings of children who attend a Design Day.

Sam is excited that his contribution will build stronger relationships between community members, and looks forward to seeing firsthand the difference his contribution will make by participating in an Operation Playground build.  He hopes other youth and young adults join him in supporting Operation Playground.
