By JAMAL THALJI, Times Staff Writer Published December 16, 2005
LACOOCHEE - At 5 a.m. Thursday, Richard Someillan was the first one there. He stood alone in front of what was once the Lacoochee Boys and Girls Clubs' state-of-the-art playground before flames and arson destroyed it.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay's director of facilities thought back to that October day he first surveyed the damage, when he made a promise he wasn't sure he could keep.

The Importance of Physical Education & Play for Children By: Mr. David Del Busto, Masters of Sport Science Degree (candidate), USSA
Teaching physical education and play are as crucial to a child's development as any academic endeavor. Perceptual motor skill development is directly related to central nervous system and how it processes information received from sensory organs through out the body. Trained children can better process information regarding their place in space and time (Chapan 2005). An assumption is generally made, that with time children automatically become coordinated, and attain spatial and directional awareness. This in not true; maturation and practice are two key elements for children to develop greater coordination and spatial awareness.

Snack Food Companies Promote Healthy Lifestyles
BY CAROLINE E. MAYER Washington Post News Service
WASHINGTON - Four-year-old Ylan Isaac earnestly dumps mulch into a big plastic funnel, then pours it out. He dumps and pours, dumps and pours, in his favorite spot in the new playground at his preschool. Here, ''you get to play with dirt,'' he says.
Playing is exactly what PepsiCo had in mind when it decided to fund the playground at the CentroNia preschool in Washington, the first of 13 that the beverage and snack-food company will build around the country as part of its campaign to promote exercise. Like other big food companies, PepsiCo is trying to put the spotlight on fitness and nutrition to ''balance'' the calories consumed while eating many of the foods it sells.
