About KaBOOM!

KaBOOM! is a non-profit company that’s all about play. We want every kid in America to have a great place to play within walking distance of their home. With the help of sponsors and communities, we build playgrounds, ice rinks, skate parks, and sports fields all across the country.

KaBOOM! was started by a man named Darell Hammond, who grew up in a group home outside of Chicago. Volunteers there made sure he had a great childhood, and inspired him to help improve the lives of other children. Darell became a Boy Scout and Eagle Scout and was always looking for ways to help in his community. He started KaBOOM! more than 10 years ago, and with the help of kids just like you, we’ve built over 1,400 playspaces! And we’re still going strong!

About Design Day
At KaBOOM!, every playspace is designed by the true experts: You! We hold a Design Day for the kids who will be using the playground. They get to draw their dream playspace, adding in whatever toys and equipment they want to use. The best part? KaBOOM! takes these ideas and turns them into the actual playground design. When the playground is built by community volunteers, the kids get to see their ideas become reality.


How You Can Help
Visit the KaBOOM! Playspace Finder, our national online directory of playgrounds, ice rinks, skate parks, and fields all around the country. Find a playspace in your neighborhood and add any in that we’re missing! Just download this form, grab your parents and a camera, and pay a visit to the playspace. Fill out the form, take a few photos, and have your mom or dad put the info in here. You’ll have helped kids across the country find a nearby place to play!
